Our History

The story of Torres CPA Group begins in 1981 when our founder, CPA William Torres Torres, began his own practice. Working for several years with a leading international CPA firm gave him the necessary experience and confidence to begin this new venture. The Torres CPA Group, now known as TCG has grown into an industry-leading local CPA firm with national and international affiliations.

Integration and Transformation: Goals of TCG’s New Managing Partner

“Integration, this would be the best way to define my new path at TCG”, affirms Mara González, who was recently appointed Managing Partner.  González identifies areas in which she sees herself not as a change but as a transformation and development agent. “The firm basis established by William Torres, founder of TCG, serves as the platform from which the firm should continue growing”, added González.

The new Managing Partner aspires to encourage a collaborative and interactive environment between the different departments or specialties that make up TCG.  González states that the integration of services is essential to create a vision of the firm as a whole and not as a conglomerate divided into sections.

“This vision leads me into the cardinal point and reason for what we are here, client service.  When we see ourselves as a whole, we promote a swift and time-sensitive mentality to attend to the particular and different requirements and needs of each client”.  She adds that although TCG is a growing company it cannot overlook or forget the personal and sensitive way in which it serves each client.

On the other hand, and based on the visionary perspective of CPA Torres, González is focused on continuing to develop the technologies regarding automatization of the tools available without losing the quality of service.  This way, services are updated and integrated based on the transformations provided by these tools.  “Automatization is a firm step forward that speeds up the processes, but by no means substitutes individualized service”, reaffirms González.

Finally, and of utmost importance for her, she wants to establish a policy in which the reality of the employees is considered.  “We are all family people in which productivity comes hand in hand with the sensitivity towards the personal situations of each one”, concludes González.

Mara González started working at TCG in 1992 as labor laws compliance auditor.  In 1996, she joined the consulting department as a consultant.  In the more than 20 years of experience, she has managed claims on construction, business acquisitions, business valuations, communal area maintenance (CAM) reports, financial damage reports, litigation reports, bankruptcy, forensic audit investigations, implementation of lean management programs, commercial financial structures, and countless other commitments and contract matters.

González has participated in multiple seminars related to the content of her various commitments at the firm.  Among others: Conference on Construction Law-Interamerican University-; Office Management Expenses- Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico-; On-site Expenses- Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico-; Business Acquisitions- State Society of Puerto Rico-; Litigation Support- State Society of Puerto Rico-; Inheritance- State Society of Puerto Rico-; Inheritance of Businesses-Banco Popular de Puerto Rico-; Forensic Audit- State Society of Puerto Rico-.

She has a BA in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico (1993) and an MBA in Finances from Interamerican University (1998).

Today, our firm has more than 40 years of experience in the accounting, auditing, and tax management and our practices and organizational culture reflect this experience. Our growth over the years has made us reexamine the way we address the new demands of our 21st-century customers.
