Internship Program

Internships…Path to Career and Professional Development

At TCG we strongly believe in the value and benefits of our Internship Program. Through the years it has become one of our main pillars of growth.

Internships help accounting students narrow and focus on their fields of specialty while gaining valuable exposure to how a business works in real life. Our Internship Program has proven that the best way to develop future leaders is to provide them with hands-on experience in accounting and tax compliance engagements where they put the skills learned in college to actual use.

Our internships provide a mentoring program where the student is assigned to an experienced professional responsible for the on-the-job training and the student’s future development in their areas of interest.

Every semester we have approximately ten students participating in our Internship Program. The result has been a win-win alternative for the students and for the Firm.

Students have been able to broaden their accounting knowledge and gain experience, and TCG has used the Program as its primary source of recruitment as it enables us to identify excellent candidates and help them move on to be part of our team once they complete their BBA degree.

Amanda Cotto and Kevin Silva are excellent examples of how proud we are of our Internship Program. They began their internships at a High School level.

CPA María I. Otero

Senior Manager

After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, I started to work as an assistant auditor at CPA William Torres Torres & Co. On my first day at work, I was sent to assist a senior in a governmental audit.

What did I know about governmental audits? Almost nothing, just what I have read as part of the Advance Accounting class and the CPA Coaching…But I can tell you, the on-the-job training was excellent. In the field, you apply what you have learned at the university and learn many other things that are not written in the books. The Firm has the commitment to teach you and help you develop your skills and potential to a maximum. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to participate in governmental audits and commercial non-public companies’ audits. I have learned about tax strategies and corporate tax returns preparation, etc. The on-the-job training I received through the years exposed me to different industries such as construction, retail, and real estate and property management.

Today, I am a Senior Audit Manager with over nineteen years of experience with Torres CPA Group. I am an expert in construction audits and the preparation of complex combined and consolidated financial statements. I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to my audit staff helping them to grow technically as well as professionally. My dedication and Torres CPA Group’s commitment to excellence make me the successful professional I am.

CPA Saudhi Soto, Esq

Saudhi joined the firm in 1990 after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BBA in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She started to work as an assistant auditor with CPA William Torres Torres & Co. A year later, Saudhi received CPA certification. After several years working in the audit department, Saudhi started to work on new projects related to taxes, such as income tax returns preparation for individuals and corporations, tax planning, and tax investigations.

Soon afterwards, and under the direction of CPA William Torres, they formally created a tax department bringing new people to the firm and developing them into excellent professionals becoming what today is Torres CPA Group ́s Tax and Accounting Department. In 1995, Saudhi was appointed Manager of this department responsible for the planning, administration, and supervision of tax and accounting practice with a budgeted time of over 20,000 hours, 300 companies and individuals, and $1,000,000 in fees.

In 2001 Saudhi graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law. In that same year, she obtained her license to practice law. She also passed the federal bar examination and was admitted, on the Federal Court level, to the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She was appointed Tax Partner in 2006.

Amanda Cotto

Amanda Cotto

PR Tax Incentive Onboarding Specialist

My name is Amanda Cotto, my career journey started in high school when I decided to get a vocational certification in accounting. During my senior year we went on a fieldtrip to the Torres CPA offices. We received orientation about the firm and about the accounting practice in general. That summer, I received an invitation to do an internship in Torres CPA Group. In this time I had the experience of learning how to use Quickbooks Online.

Then, I started my graduate studies in the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, were I completed my bachelor’s degree in accounting. During my years of study at the university I continued to work as an intern in Torres CPA Group. Through these years I learned to do monthly reconciliations, process payroll, as well as other types of tax filings. Being able to have this internship experience allowed me to confirm that accounting was what I wanted to continue to study and build a career in this field.

Once I graduated with my bachelor’s degree, I was offered a full-time position in the firm. Currently, I am the implementation specialist at Torres CPA. I receive the new clients, implement them in our system, and guide them through the process of starting up their businesses here. I enjoy my job to the fullest and am proud of how far this experience that started as an internship has taken me.

Kevin Silva

Assistant Accountant

I started my professional career with Torres CPA Group in 2019 at the young age of 17 while still a student at Antilles High School. At first, I joined as a trainee with the CIFRAS team. The kind of exposure I received was phenomenal; it helped me mold myself into a well-rounded professional in the area of financial accounting. I’m pleased to say that they’ve encouraged me to explore new areas and learn; they have the ability to see potential in people and put them in a place where they can develop. In the multiple years, I’ve been a part of TCG, I’ve had numerous opportunities of learning and explore new departments, from bookkeeping to tax compliance.
